THE INGREDIENTS LIST:
1 pie crust (store-bought or homemade).
225 grams.Of ground sausage (pork or turkey).
1 small onion, finely chopped.
1 diced bell pepper.
150 grams.Of mushrooms, sliced.
150 grams.Of shredded Monterey Jack cheese.
150 grams.Of shredded cheddar cheese.
4 large eggs.
120 ml.Of milk.
Salt and pepper to taste.
Optional toppings: diced tomatoes, chopped scallions, or salsa.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1st Step
Prepare a temperature in your oven of 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius). If you are using a pie crust that you purchased from the store, be sure you pre-bake it according to the directions provided on the box. If you are making your own crust, prepare it and roll it out so that it will fit into a pie dish of 9 inches in diameter. After the crust has been placed in the dish, the edges should be crimped.
2nd Step
Cook the ground sausage in a large pan over medium heat, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks, until it is browned all the way through and cooked all the way through. Take the sausage out of the pan and put it to the side for later.
3rd Step
Sauté the chopped onion, diced bell pepper, and sliced mushrooms in the same pan using the grease that is left over from cooking the sausage. Do this until the vegetables have become tender and have a small caramelization. This should take around 7–10 minutes to complete. After that, distribute the cooked sausage in a uniform layer on the base of the pie dough. After that, pile the veggies that have been sautéed on top of the sausage.
4th Step
On top of the sausage and veggies, distribute half of the shredded Monterey Jack cheese and half of the shredded cheddar cheese.
5th Step
In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined. Prepare to taste with salt and pepper. After the sausage, veggies, and cheese have been uniformly distributed in the pie crust, the next step is to pour the egg mixture on top. On top of the egg mixture, sprinkle the remainder of the grated cheese.
6th Step
Put the pie dish in an oven that has been warmed to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for about 35 to 40 minutes, or until the filling is set in the middle and the top is golden brown.
7th Step
Before slicing the pie, make sure it has had a chance to somewhat cool down. You may add diced tomatoes, chopped scallions, or salsa as a topping for more taste and color if you like. The Monterey Sausage Pie should be cut into wedges and served at a warm temperature. This recipe would go nicely with a crisp salad or some veggies that have been steamed.
