Ingredients:
9 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
2½ cups all-purpose flour
½ cup milk
2 egg yolks
2 egg whites
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 cup shortening
¾ cup white sugar
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
For the icing:
1 ½ cups powered sugar
Dash of salt
3 tablespoons of milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch pan.
2. In a medium bowl, mix flour, 2 tbsp sugar, and salt. Cut in shortening until crumbly. Combine egg yolks and 1/2 cup milk, add to flour mixture.
3. Roll out half of the dough to fit the pan. Line pan, coat with egg white.
4. Layer sliced apples, sugar, and cinnamon. Roll out remaining dough and place on top. Brush with egg white.
5. Bake 35 minutes or so, or until top is golden.
6. In a small bowl, mix together icing ingredients. Drizzle over cooled bars. Cut into squares.
